Since I read various pairings and genres, I was very surprised to realize my three favorite MCR fics are Frerad AUs.  And that got me curious about everybody else's top recs.

If you could only recommend 3 MCR slashfics ever again (any pairing/genre), which 3 would you pick?

1.) The soap sculptures for soap in the city were kind of ... not that great. I wonder who made them. You can do A LOT more with soap than that. And one of the buildings was just a solid, uncarved brick Greenwash. Ick. Who wants a 5-6 pound bar of Greenwash?!?

2.) No goodie bags. Ok, it's a party ... so that usually means a goodie bag with $50 purchase. In fact, without a goodie bag, HOW is it a PARTY even?!? Without a goodie bag, isn't it just a regular old day shopping at Lush? I feel a little duped on that.

3.) Got to smell Freeze and Slammer which I had already ordered online and they smell delish. Bought 2 Honey Lumps ballistics since I overlooked those when I placed the online order. They smell just like Brazened Honey biofresh mask.

Ok, that's enough complainery for one entry.

I did get a sneak peek at the new soaps -- Porridge smells DIVINE.

I don't want to spam you with Qoob vids too much, so there's just the link this time: All over Brazil. Doesn't stand out for its originality - mash Billy Elliot up with the Arthur flashbacks in Velvet Goldmine and you'll get this short film about a 13 years old boy in 1974 Scotland, who's fond of glam rock while his dad would want him to be into manly things like football ("or... wrestling, or... not freakin' ballet!"). But I enjoyed the acting, the Scottish accents and especially the cinematography, which really evokes that 70's feeling...

Also, I was doing some research on old school groupies, and happened to Pamela Des Barres' site, where I found this interesting interview with Courtney Love and Hole back from the Live through this days, complete with Cobain eating pizza in the background. Interesting insight on how it is to be a woman in a male-dominated business like rock 'n' roll.

On a totally unrelated note, comic artist and cartoonist Eric Canete has posted this Legend sketch and that made me smile :-) I *loved* Legend. I rewatched it recently and - wow, it's trippy. It's one of the films that shaped my imagination during childhood - the big one being The neverending story. And the other day a 15 years old boy came at the library and gave me a three books list he had to read during summer, and the thickest (because these youths totally freak out on page count *rolleyes*) was The neverending story. I showed him the book and tried to make it less scary saying, "you know, it's actually the same story as in the film" (not exactly true, but still), and he looked at me quizzically.

"You know, The neverending story. That kid's movie with the huge flying dog and... Atreyu?", I said.
"Never seen it", said the boy, with the MOST LOBOTOMIZED LOOK EVER (the emo bangs surely didn't make him look of brighter wit).

I don't know what kept me from performing a massive headdesk right there, really. HOW ARE THESE NEW GENERATIONS GROWING UP, FOR GMORK'S SAKE?

And now, this Saturday afternoon has totally slacked away. Go me for my utter ability at doing nothing! And I can't even blame it on the heat because if I went downstairs I could turn on the air conditioning, but I'm too lazy even for that.

At least five people were injured Friday afternoon during a three-car collision in Chandler that scattered cupcakes over a busy roadway, police said.

None of the victims suffered injuries that were considered life-threatening, said Detective Dave Ramer, a Chandler Police Department spokesman.

The Independence Day collision occurred about 1:45 p.m. at Alma School Road and Willis Road, just south of Loop 202.

Investigators believe that the driver of a BMW that was heading south on Alma School failed to stop for a red light and collided with two other vehicles, a Lexus with six people aboard and a Pontiac with two occupants, spreading cupcakes over the roadway, Ramer said.

The occupants of one of the vehicles apparently were on their way to a party, thus accounting for the presence of the bakery items, Ramer said.

Also the anniversary of America's hard-won independence, etc. It's Barbecue Day in my family. Somewhat sadly, I am not a big barbecue fan. It's also Fireworks 24/7 Day, much to the distress of our dogs, although the street's been pretty quiet so far. I predict that things should pick up this evening, however. Also, Sister Girl and Pete are coming to visit sometime later, which should be fun. Mom was thinking about trying to go see Iron Man, but apparently it's only playing at one theater in town at 9:50 pm, which is a no-go for her. This is what happens when you wait too long to see movies, people.

I'm new to

lushcosmetics on Livejournal! I'm Mia, I'm 17 (Almost 18) years old and I'm from Washington, DC. Although I'm new to lushcosmetics on LiveJournal, I'm not new to Lush cosmetics. I discovered Lush in middle school in Covent Garden in England. I was dissapointed that there was Lush in the United Kingdom but there wasn't Lush in the United States, but Lush opened in Georgetown in Washington, DC a few months later! Since, I've been a Lushaholic. My favorite products are Coalface Imperialis for my face, and any and every bath bomb!

Now, I'm applying for a job as a Sales Associate at Lush. I've worked as a summer camp counselor and as a babysitter, but this is my first 'real' job. I'm nervous! What should I or shouldn't I write in my cover letter? Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

Edit: I applied! I think it was great. The sales woman recognized me. haha. We talked about the new products as well as the 'retro' products. Then, I got Ginger perfume for my mom (it's her favorite!) and I bought Marzibain for myself. I got a goodie bag, too, with Bon Bain Bonnard, Mr T, and American Cream. I even entered the Lush Town contest! Then, I asked for the manager or the manager in training. The sales woman was the manager in training! I gave her my resume as well as a 'blurb' from Alternative Press Magazine about Lush that they didn't have. She said that they're actually hiring, and that they "should" call me sooner or later. My fingers are crossed!

I will be leaving for KOS in GREECE at the end of next week, so no updates for about 10 days from there.
Also, I did insane amounts of shopping this week. I now own, as a result, another 4 volumes of DeathNote (Mello is a sexy chocolate-wielding psychopath!), Stardust (teh novel), shirts and trousers and OMG even a skirt (I never ever wear skirts).

I am working on a H/Ch but it's mostly pawrn at this time. I'm trying to inject the philosophising I was intending to make the point of this piece, but it's not looking too good. Oh, well, there's not enough H/Ch out there anyway :D It'll still do some good, I imagine.

I'm enjoying the intermittent sunshine very much. And the lappy. And being lazy and not having to calculate what I'll do every day... It's all good.

I just needed to purge my brain. I just saw the most disturbing video . . . Okay, so it's probably not the most disturbing thing to ever happen, but it's still downright disturbing, and I am SO not posting a link, to save my readers' sanity. It is that bad.

What's worse? It was played by a news outlet of some sort, some channel spouting the "it bleeds, it leads" headline of the day, nasal woman's voice with no hint of outrage, while the video looped over and over and over the scene of a young teenage boy pulling a squirming, screaming infant (infant – like, small, and in diapers) onto a big pillow and then jumping on the pillow, launching the baby across the room. It had sound.

Good gracious . . . I need mental floss . . . And a brown paper bag to breathe into . . .

My heart about stopped. Unfortunately, I was too shocked to stop the video sooner, before the newsgroup played it in some macabre parody of a Funniest Home Videos replay loop. I'm still feel like hyperventilating, and I'm afraid I might have nightmares tonight. More than that, I feel like going into the bedroom and picking up my baby and holding him close for the rest of the night. I'd cry, except I'm still shellshocked.

For some time now, especially since my baby was born, I've had difficulty watching things where babies are in danger. My heart starts to race and I get really uncomfortable. Maybe it's my maternal instinct going into overdrive, or hormones. I don't feel homicidal rage, or anything, just extreme fear and an overwhelming sense of helplessness. There are little people completely incapable of defending themselves, they are in danger, and I can do nothing about it. It's the stuff nightmares are made of.

This was apparently a video taken by two teenagers – the one featured in the video now facing possible jail time, don't know about the guy who stood by and taped it – who apparently have no respect for fragile life and could use a little time getting the ever-lovin' CRAP beat out of them by angry parents everywhere. But what's worse? The newsgroup's complete lack of disclaimer (although there could have been one at the beginning that the video did not show) and utterly disgusting lack of tact or discretion by looping it the way they did. There was absolutely NO reason they should have repeated that. Even if they had a disclaimer, that scene should not have been treated like a sports blooper replay.

And people wonder why our society is so jaded?

I need to go hug my baby now. And pray for that other baby. And the souls of those young, sociopathic baby-abusers. And our mainstream media producers . . .
